For your consideration is a vintage 1964 Gibson Firebird III electric guitar with case . This guitar has seen a lot in its lifetime, but it is a player that is meant to be played, and is still alive and kicking, especially after our fresh tune-up!
Headstock has some signs of use, various nicks and dings. A long time ago, the headstock did suffer a break. An incredibly talented luthier then crafted a new piece of wood for the lower portion of the headstock (the line can be faintly seen on the face of the headstock), and then created a scarf joint to marry the new headstock to the neck. This was expertly done and executed to perfection...it is truly a remarkable job. Had the guitar been refinished in solid color, it would be have difficult to notice it had been repaired. Our luthier thought that perhaps even someone at the Gibson factory did the repair. It has been rock solid for decades now. No truss rod cover.
Original banjo tuners work wonderfully.
Fretboard is not only a beautiful piece of wood, but is in fantastic condition with lots of life left. The frets do show some signs of wear, but no major divots and still have plenty of meat left.
The elephant in the room is the...unique...DIY-at-home paint-pen decorative job that was also done a very long time ago. We have opted to not remove it. The body has a fair amount of wear, as pictured...all from being played! Pure mojo with this one.
The original bridge was also removed decades ago and was swapped for a (now vintage) German made Schaller bridge...one could argue it's actually an upgrade.
The non-original pickups sing...so this one has it where it counts!
Guitar plays phenomenally well, and sounds magnificent...certainly don't see these everyday.
Comes with hardshell case.
