Wowza. It feels weird to even have to introduce this one, but here is a 1988 Wal MK II 5 string bass guitar.
All the lore, the magic, the intangible X factor that surrounds these basses...believe the hype! There is truly nothing like a Wal. The look, the feel, and most importantly the sound...it's all there with this one.
The multi-coil humbuckers, with the filter-based preamp, and the tone woods all add up to a larger than life sound that needs to be experienced to be fully understood.
These do not show up often, and they rightfully have a place not only in bass guitar history, but modern music as a whole.
This one was finished in January 1988, and boasts a Brazilian mahogany core, American Walnut faces, and Indian Rosewood fretboard.
Over the decades, it has not only been used, with plenty of honest miles, it has also been very well loved.
Headstock has a few dings, including a larger one on the face of the headstock. Fretboard looks wonderful...they don't have wood like this anymore. The frets do have some wear to them, but still have plenty of life left. No major divots or dead spots. Brass nut is a lovely touch. The body has plenty of honest signs of wear, but again, nothing out of the ordinary...just signs of use from countless shows gone by. This one certainly would have a story to tell.
The bridge pickup is missing a screw as shown, and the back cavity plate is held on by 2 screws as most of the other holes have been stripped out.
The electronics, which were ahead of their time, even by today's standards, function as they should and offer a true universe of bass sound. Meaty lows, and glassy highs, with everything in between...all the while being useful and musical.
The XLR out is also ahead of its time and is perfect for recording or going direct, all while maintaining the true sound of the bass...no "fart in a bowl" tone from this one.
Plays well, is ready to rip, and has many more decades ahead of it.
Bass was recently setup with Dragonskin strings and now it sings.
Please note the original hardshell case is included, but has really seen better days. 2 of the latches work, but are finicky and the case no longer offers the protection this guitar needs. So, the bass will be shipped in a brand new Reunion Blues gig bag, which are well built and will protect this investment.
Shipping price is for standard overnight shipping service.
